Jurassic World, Terminator: Genesis, Fantastic 4, and Planted of the Apes 3 Updates

2015 is going to be a stacked year for sure in movies, and a film nut's wet dream. Not only do you have the Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, Star Wars Episode 7, and Batman vs. Superman; but there's also a long list of smaller movies like Avatar 2, Ted 2, and a Friday the 13th sequel. Can you believe that I just referred to Avatar 2 as a small movie? Here's some updates on other anticipated films.

Jurassic World

It seems like I've been hearing about a sequel/remake of Jurassic Park for years now. My favorite version had the Rock to star, but sadly that fell through. But now we have a release date of June 12th, 2015 with shooting is set to start  June 2nd, 2014. And Chris Pratt is possibly the lead in this movie, which would be great because he's awesome. For me this is one of my most anticipated movies of 2015 because the original Jurassic Park is honestly the first movie I remember watching as a kid. Jurassic Park is a classic that had affect on people, not to mention it was the first movie to showcase CG I in a big way. It's been nearly 20 years since Jurassic Park came out and there are movies that come out today with worse CG I than the original Jurassic Park.

Terminator Genesis

Talk about classic movies! The first Terminator had such an impact on people it caused a whole generation to have a deep mistrust in machines. And the second Terminator is arguably the best action movie ever. There is an awesome sequence in T2 where the Arnold terminator climbs out the window of a moving truck runs across the truck bed and jumps onto the hood of a following semi truck, where then he proceeds to unload his machine gun through the windshield in an attempt to slow down the evil T1000. This whole sequence is a single shot and probably the coolest practical stunt I've seen in a movie. Shooting for the reboot begins April 21st in Louisiana. I'm gonna see this movie and hope it's cool but you can't deny Terminator 3 and 4 were bombs so don't yell at me if I'm a little bit on the fence for this one.

Fantastic 4 Reboot

Let's face it. The last attempt at a Fantastic 4 franchise gave us two pretty crappy movies, so Fox went back to the drawing bored. There isn't a lot known about this reboot aside from a few casting rumors but shooting is confirmed for March 31st in hopes of hitting their 2015 releases date. What can i say? I'm always excited for more superheroes.

Planet of the Apes 3

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes comes out this summer much to my excitement, but it seems that the studio isn't holding back on plans for a third installment. Fox has announced to release the third installment on July 26th, 2016. This is big news showing that Fox has a lot of confidence not only in the upcoming sequel but in the franchise as a money maker in general.

Is Johnny Depp Marvel's Doctor Strange?

Marvel is really on a role. Two big casting decisions in two days? That's crazy. Okay I'm getting a bit ahead of myself because this story isn't confirmed of yet, but it seems that in addition to Micheal Douglas being cast as Henry "Hank" Pym (yesterday) Marvel is also in talks with Johnny Depp to play Doctor Strange in the superheroes upcoming cinematic debut. If you don't know who Doctor Strange is here's a quick rundown. Doctor Stephen Strange is a wealthy and talented neurosurgeon who loses his gift after being disabled in a car accident. Obsessive and unable to move on with life he travels the world looking for a way to fix his disability. He stumbles across a man who teaches him the mystic arts and becomes the Sorcerer Supreme and protector of earth from magical threats.

Now I don't usually report rumors but It's Johnny Depp, how can you not talk about this? Depp is one of the most polarizing actorss today. Most people love him but at the same time his constant need to do weird over the top roles like Willy Wonka and the Mad Hatter have annoyed many a fan who wish the star would take on a few more normal and down to earth roles. But honestly I could see this rumor proving to be true. Johnny Depp is a very talented actor when he's not taking acid with Tim Burton before a scene and Marvel has shown that they're committed to casting serious actors in their films like Michael Douglas, Anthony Hopkins, and Tommy Lee Jones, just to name a few. In addition to that Depp and Disney (who owns Marvel) have a relationship together as he helped build one of their top franchises of recent memory "Pirates of the Caribbean" where he starred as Captain Jack Sparrow. Not to mention that Depp just simply looks like a Doctor Strange so I'd actually be on board for Depp to be cast in this role.

But what do you guys think? Would you like to see Johnny Depp as a superhero? And if you liked this article and want to read more subscribe to my blog by clicking the subscribe button in the side bar on the right.

Michael Douglas is Henry Pym in Marvel's Ant-Man!

So here's a cool bit of of news coming out of Hollywood. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has just announced that Michael Douglas will portray Henry Pym in the upcoming Marvel superhero movie "Ant-Man." For those of you who don't follow comics Henry Pym was the original Ant-Man and the inventor of the Ant-Man tech, a technology that makes the wearer able to change his size from small to big or big to small.

There wasn't a lot known about the direction the film would take until this news. About a month back fans learned that Paul Rudd was confirmed to be Ant-Man for the film but it was never specified which one he would be. This led people to speculate if Rudd was actually cast to play the second Ant-Man Scott Lang. Lang is a former thief who steals the Ant-Man suit from Pym in a desperate move to save the life of his sick daughter. After saving her he reforms and Pym tells him to keep the suit making him the new Ant-Man.

Michael Douglas is a very talented actor and this casting shows that Marvel is taking the movie seriously. The addition of a name like Douglas really gives the project a boost of legitimacy in the eyes of the fans. It's also cool as a fan to see that even though Marvel has chosen to tell Scott Lang's story instead of Henry Pym's that they still plan to make Pym an integral part of the story and show the character the respect he deserves.

What do you guys think though? Was Michael Douglas a good choice for the original Ant-Man? Do you even know who Ant-Man is? Comment and let me know. Also if you liked this article and found it informative subscribe to my blog there are a lot more to come.

No Jason in new Friday the 13th Movie?

Okay guys, so when it comes to horror movies I have quite the love hate relationship. I mean I love myself a great scary movie. Last year when I saw the "The Conjuring," I hadn't been captivated like that by a horror flick in a long time. It was awesome! But because the nature of the horror genre, that being they're very cheap to make and that people flock to see them regardless of their quality; for every Conjuring we get we also get ten or so garbage movies making it incredibly hard to trust this genre.

Keep that in mind as I relay this bit of movie news to you. In an interview with Crave Online Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes and one of the producers for the new Friday the 13th said that Jason might not even be in the movie. So in addition to the rumor that the 13th installment of the franchise will be a found footage movie (which I can live with, a found footage movie might be kind of cool) there might be no Jason? If they actually do it, that would be a pretty bold maneuver by Platinum Dunes to remove the iconic star of Friday the 13th from Friday the 13th. And yes I do know that Jason wasn't even in the original film, or that in part 5 there was an impostor Jason. But I also remember when the Halloween franchise tried to swap Michael Myers out of part three for some witches and we all saw how that turned out.

In all likelihood this rumor is nonsense. Jason is worth too much money to the studio to just sit a movie out. Jason's hockey mask on the poster alone sells the film.

But what do you guys think about the possibility that Jason might not be in the 13th Friday the 13th? Leave a comment below. And if you liked this article please subscribe so I can share more movie news, reviews, and creative articles with you.

Lone Survivor: Movie Review

People in the movie world say that January is where movies go to die. The reasoning behind this is it's right after the holidays and people have just spent heaps of money on presents and booze so they probably won't be rushing out to the movie theater anytime soon unless they want to go bankrupt. In response movie theaters usually push out four or so weeks of crappy movies at least two of which are bad horror movies. Which reminds me, I'm just so very excited to review "Devils Due" next weekend (sarcasm). Lucky for us "Lone Survivor" was actually supposed to come out last month but was pushed back due to how crowded December was getting.

"Lone Survivor" is based on the true story of four navy seals who are sent to take out a Taliban leader and their fight to stay alive when the mission goes wrong. This movie was very intense and probably one of  the most fast paced two hours of film I've ever seen. You almost couldn't believe everything these guys went through to survive. The plot was very simple (fight to survive) but it was done so well. Honestly? A movie with a simple plot done well is always better than some grand scheme of things plot done half ass and this movie proves it.

As for the acting, everyone really turned in great performances. Mark Wahlberg was great in the lead as Marcus Luttrell and  Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch, and Eric Bana all turned in great performances as well. But who really stood out to me was Taylor Kitsch. I love to seeing Kitsch in a role like this because the guy has had a rough ride the last couple years starring in massive flops like "Battleship" and "John Carter." Hollywood seems to be shying away from him as of late so It's good to see him involved in a project like this to hopefully reinvigorate his career.

I'd saw if I had one gripe with the movie it was that there wasn't a lot of character development. However this isn't too big a deal, it won't make you like the movie any less. This movie wasn't as much about who these guys are as what happened to them on this particular mission.

To sum it up this movie was a fast paced, with a simple yet effective plot, and good acting. I'd recommend seeing this movie in theaters, its a good night out. I really think anyone could appreciate this movie, men and women alike (i'm not sure about kids though) as it really makes you appreciate the things that our members of the military really do overseas.
